WISEMANS FERRY'S FERRYS
One of the charms of visiting Wisemans Ferry is that the ferry ride itself is part of the experience. Two vehicle ferries provide crossings in the area: Wisemans Ferry, crossing the Hawkesbury River, and Webbs Creek Ferry, crossing Webbs Creek. Both are free to use and operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, carrying cars, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians across the waterways. These historic cable-ferry crossings are not only an essential part of the local road network but also a wonderfully simple way to experience the river — slow down, take in the surrounding sandstone escarpments and bushland, and enjoy one of the distinctive features of life around Wisemans Ferry.
WISEMANS FERRY PARK
Wisemans Ferry Park is a beautiful riverside spot on the banks of the Hawkesbury River, perfect for a picnic, a relaxed afternoon or simply watching the ferries and boats pass by. Surrounded by bushland and sandstone escarpments, the park has large grassy areas, shady trees, picnic and barbecue facilities, a playground and plenty of space for families to enjoy the outdoors. With the river just metres away and the Wisemans Ferry crossing nearby, it’s an easy place to stop, unwind and take in the landscape that makes this part of the Hawkesbury so special.
BRING YOUR BOAT
Wisemans Ferry is a great base for getting out on the Hawkesbury River, with a modern public boat ramp on Old Northern Road providing easy access for visitors bringing their own boat. The facility has a three-lane ramp, twin pontoons, dedicated rigging and de-rigging areas, amenities and extensive parking, including 163 spaces for cars with boat trailers and 29 spaces for cars. The new ramp opened in 2022 and was designed to make it much easier for recreational boaters to launch and spend the day cruising, fishing, waterskiing or simply exploring the Hawkesbury by water.
PICK YOUR OWN CITRUS - EXPERIENCE
Just a short drive from Wisemans Ferry, two local family farms offer a wonderful seasonal pick-your-own citrus experience. Watkins Family Farm has been farmed by the Watkins family since 1836 and invites visitors to wander through the orchard picking mandarins and other seasonal citrus, enjoy a picnic and meet the farm animals. Nearby, Fords Farm sits on the banks of the Hawkesbury River, where visitors can pick mandarins, oranges, lemons, limes and cumquats straight from the trees, then relax in the small riverside picnic area. Both make for an easy and memorable country outing, particularly for families, although fruit picking is seasonal, so check availability before visiting.
